A small selection of the most popular poems I've written over the past year. These, and many more, are available to buy as a lovely little book! See the link to the left to order a copy of 'A Thousand Beautiful Birds', available as an e-book or hard-copy!
Why not have a listen to this recent poem, written for the Lammas ceremony at Chalice Well, Glastonbury.
And for those of you who prefer to read them...
(a poem about my 'buttons', what happens when they get pressed, and the reactions that follow!)
There is the trigger
that rouses the sleeping troops
They jump out of bed
and they grab their guns
ready to shoot down
or stand guard
They will not rest
once the trigger is pulled
So then I find myself
having to make cups of tea
to calm them down
Around I go
to each and every one
“There there” I say,
“It’s ok,
you can go back to bed now”.
One day the troops will be sent home
once they realise the war is over.
But for now,
I’ll keep on making them cups of tea.
(a poem about fear, holding on, and letting go)
An arrow has been sent forth
from my heart
For all these years it’s been held back
the archer too scared to let it go
There are thousands of these archers
all poised within the great caverns of my heart
They too cling to their bows
afraid of what might happen if they should fire
But every now and again
the strain of holding on gets too much
and one of them loosens his grip
Letting his arrow take flight
And in that moment I breathe a sigh of relief
as what was clung to is released
I watch it soar into the unknown
and delight as it turns into a thousand beautiful birds.
(a whisper in my ear from the Spirit)
I love you I love you
I love you said the Spirit
Even though you cause trouble
here there and everywhere
Just for a moment be still, and let yourself be truly loved
Then I bet you’ll be back for more
until one day you won’t be able to leave me
For my love is quite unlike anything you’ll find out there
and will utterly
blow
you
away.
